Reading thru all the other excellent blogs on SacWineRegion.com, it occurred to me that I'm the only blogger who has not described his/her OWN winery. Big mistake. Let me correct that as my initial salvo in an ongoing feature of telling you about individual wineries and individual vineyards in Calaveras - hopefully giving you an idea of the personalities that make a Calaveras tasting adventure so much fun.
So here goes!
Solomon Wine Company was founded in 2002 by 25-year industry veteran Scott Heron with the stated mission of introducing consumers to new wines presented in new ways. Given our love of the quality of the wines and the quality of the people in the Sierra Foothills, we decided to focus on wines from this emerging region.
Today, under the guidance of winemaker Nancy Steel (whose resume incudes experience as a winemaker in Napa, Sonoma, and Australia - as well as the Sierra Foothills), we are currently producing three distinct brands with three distinctive personalities and flavor profiles. Our Muse wines are styled (and priced) for everyday drinking and include both white and red blends, as well as a new Sangria. Our Garsa brand is the "adventure" brand that highlights Mediterranean grapes from the Foothillls such as Tempranillo, Roussanne, Grenache, Sangiovese, and Syrah. Cloud 9 is our ultra-premium brand, with a unique Tempranillo-based red wine blend and a Zinfandel from 139-year old vines.
In addition to our tasting room in the heart of downtown Murphys, we also have one closer to Sacramento in the Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg.
