So January is the quiet time in the tasting rooms as the "holiday hangover" seems to cause all of us to slow down a bit. February is a different story. The activity level picks up noticeably and Presidents' Day Weekend is annually one of the biggest weekends in Calaveras.
On both February 14 and 15, the wineries in Calaveras are planning special tastings, special entertainment, and special deals for the weekend. For example:
Back "down the hill" - here in the Sacramento Valley, our other tasting room at the Old Sugar Mill will be participating in the annual "Port & Chocolate" weekend - also February 14-15. The five wineries of the Old Sugar Mill will be offering a broad array of gourmet chocolates paired with ports and other red wines - all for an admission charge of only $10.00. Port & Chocolate weekend runs from 11:00 to 5:00 p.m. both days. Five wineries, 70 wines, and a chocolate extravaganza - and oh, so close to home.

- Our winery, Solomon, along with special barrel samples, will be featuring a "Good Ol' America" theme with pork rinds, corn mush pie, and mud puddle cookies;
- Lavender Ridge will featuring Charlie and Judy Creighton from the Cheese School of San Francisco serving and educating tasters with artisan cheese samples;
- Vina Moda will capture the spirit of the holiday with Very Red Beet soup with White sour cream and Blue napkins (along with glazed Chicken Wings and Blueberry brownies).
- Hatcher Winery will feature their traditional Memphis Pulled Pork barbeque;
- Twisted Oak will be expectedly, well, twisted, as they will co-celebrate Valentine's Day and Presidents' Weekend with "Presidents in Lust" - offering sinfully lustful (but very presidential) chocolate treats;
- Tanner Vineyards will offer their own custom ranch raised chevre, salad, and Italian bread
