Hello from Cooper Vineyards

Guests often ask what our favorite wine is.

A long time ago I was referred to a specialist who, my doctor said, was a doctor's doctor. Since then I've been intrigued by who people with significant knowledge in their field recommend - like where Randy Paragary eats, or who Roger Dryer would turn to for representation. I appreciate that guests who visit the Cooper Vineyards tasting room ask what our favorite wine is, or request recommendations for other wineries to visit.

I found the latest addition to my recommend list last month while having dinner at Taste Restaurant in Plymouth with some guests who had been in the tasting room earlier in the day. With our mushroom cigar appetizers, a bottle of 2005 Narrow Gate Dunamis arrived at our table. On a side note, my adult beverage of choice ends with "t-i-n-i " so I'll leave the subjective wine writing to others. Dunamis is a GSM blend of grenache, syrah and mourvedre - our variety portfolio on the Cooper ranch is about 25 percent Rhone and I always look forward to trying Rhone blends. I enjoyed this wine so much I've ordered it during dinner a couple of more times at Taste. Each time, guests who have recognized me from the tasting room have taken notice of the bottle on the table and have ordered it for themselves. And every time they've stopped to say hello and complimented the wine. The compliments go to the folks at Narrow Gate, whom I have yet to meet, but I am certainly looking forward to it., And I hope many of our guests at Cooper, have followed the recommendation to visit their winery.

. . .Sushi and Sauvignon Blanc?

My dad, the owner and grower at Cooper Vineyards, thinks wine - any variety - pairs best with cheese and salami. So, when I told him I was working with Mikuni's to have their sushi bus cater our next event, he gave me his blessing in the I-hope-this-works kind of way. On May 18. nine Amador County wineries hosted traditional jazz, blues and Cajun bands at the Amador Vintners 2008 Wine and Jazz Jubilee. We were excited to feature Leo Bootz and the Southside Shuffle, an early one-day only release of our 2007 sauvignon blanc and catering by the Mikuni's Sushi Bus.
