These six months since my last post have
been turbulent. We had to close the Redbud Cafe. Call it fate, call it karma,
but I believe everything happens for a reason. Perhaps we were destined to move
on to new phases instead of growing old and fat off the first good thing of our
young careers. As I looked around for a new job I found out an interesting, and
as yet unproven, statistic. Practically 1000 restaurants throughout the six
counties surrounding Sacramento closed too. My hat is off to all of those who
fought to retain their businesses and lost, as well as those who are still
holding on. I was once told that 99% of restaurants wouldn't turn $1 in profit
in their first years. Which sounds like feeding people is an exercise in
futility. Yet, as I look back in a fond farewell I can't help but to feel
enriched by all those smiling faces filled with joy and rapture. I miss you
all.
In
my travels I wandered in and out of a couple different places looking for a new
playground. I found a charming wine bar called The Cellar. The posts that
follow this will be a product of a different kind. I admit I didn't really know
how to broach this medium (blogging) in the first place. I do know I have a
perspective on wine that some may call unconventional. I can promise from this
point forward that the kid gloves are off and I'm going to say anything and
everything that comes to mind about this beverage I love. Your comments will be
most important because I don't know who you are or what you already know. So
when I start talking gibberish, like, carbonic macerated candied egg foo yung,
your welcome to call me it.
