Today is an easy day wine-wise. We drive from our hotel in Paal, to Capetown about 40 minutes, then we go on a cable car ride up to the top of Table Mountain. This vast, flat expanse of granite is a signature icon of the Cape. The trip up and the views are spectacular, it is like being on a gondola in Squaw Valley, only bigger. You look down at all that is Capetown and all its suburbs. Beautiful!
Lunch at a restaurant called The Noon Gun in Cape Town on the top of Signal Mountain. It really is an expanded living room of the home and the Noon Gun stands for the gun that was fired off at noon to signify that it was 12:00.
After lunch we drive to Stellenbosch and Neil Ellis. Neil believes in sourcing grapes from the best growers to make the best possible wine. He was really the first negotiant in South Africa. After hanging out with his son and one of his best friends, who is also the winemaker, we could see this winery is poised for even better things in the future. Tomorrow is the last big wine day. I can't believe the week is disappearing.
