First South African wineries

Had a great breakfast of crumpets and eggs and bacon and fried bananas, then got picked up at 8:45 and we are off to Hamilton Russell Vineyards. It's a beautiful drive to the mountains. Dramatic contrast between the vineyards and the mountains rising behind it. The landscapes are not the only contrast on the cape. We leave the beautiful estate at Hamilton Russell and drive the magnificent coastal route back to Cape Town.

We pass a settlement of over a million people living in corrugated metal shacks, they do have electricity and we are told some of them are very nice and clean inside, but it is a far cry from Hamilton Russell, a contrast indeed.

Hamilton Russell is one of the country's premiere producers, making only Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, some say the best Pinot Noir in South Africa. We tasted thru multiple vintages of Hamilton Russell and another winery he is involved with called Southern Right.

The beautiful lunch in the owner's home overlooking his estate was unbelievable.
Can't image waking up to that every day. The rest of the afternoon was spent on a drive up the coastline and was spectacular, too. Gotta go!!
